Jameson Williams Fantasy Football Rankings & Advice After Lions Place Receiver on Reserve List

It appears Detroit Lions fans are going to have to wait a bit before getting to see rookie receiver Jameson Williams suit up on Sundays.

If you remember, Williams suffered a torn ACL in the National Championship game for Alabama last season before being selected by the Lions in the first round in the NFL Draft.

On Tuesday, the team announced it was moving him to the Reserve/NFI list. The Lions’ hope is that he’ll be ready to play around mid-season.

“The Lions are moving rookie WR Jameson Williams to the Reserve/NFI list today, per source. This was always the plan for Williams, the first-round pick who suffered a torn ACL in January’s national championship game. The hope is he’ll be ready to play around midseason,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero tweeted out today.

Jameson Williams Fantasy Football Ranking

After today’s news, many fantasy football players are wondering if Williams could be worth a draft pick given the injury status.

Per our Stokastic rankings, Williams currently doesn’t slate in among the top 70 receivers. But given his big-play ability, we can’t really blame you for trying to stash the Alabama product on your bench if you have an IR slot or aren’t satisfied with your wide receiver depth.

Earlier in the offseason, Lions head coach Dan Campbell admitted that it was hard to keep Jameson Williams engaged when he isn’t ready to participate with the team.

“We’ve got a plan for him. He’s working and he’s progressing. I think it’s big,” Campbell said. “The football is where he really – obviously, he’s all in. He loves it. He eats it up, and he knows what’s going on. He’s attentive in walkthroughs and meetings. I think it’s always got to start there.

“That’s the goal, and that’s the reach. That’s where you’re going for, but to get there you’re starting down here. We’ve got a plan, and they’ll be some days that will be rough, that’s part of rehab too. It’s not always easy, but he’ll get there.”
