It will be a QB showdown of veterans Jimmy Garoppolo and Colt McCoy on primetime MNF with Kyler Murray likely to miss his second consecutive week due to a hamstring injury. Per our Stokastic weekly quarterback rankings, Jimmy Garoppolo (No. 13 on the board) ranks well ahead of Colt McCoy. Using our player compare tool, Garoppolo projects at 17.98 fantasy points, with McCoy projecting at just 13.89.
In DFS, the question between McCoy ($9,400) and Garoppolo ($9,600) on DraftKings might be slightly more difficult given the slight difference in pricing. In our expert projections, we still have Garoppolo as a better value play in the showdown slate.
In the Week 10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, McCoy impressed, completing 26 of 37 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown.
“I think with Colt—the games that he’s played for us the biggest deal is the pre-snap recognition, getting it out to those play makers on time, accurate within catch and run, and he’s just had a, had a good feel for the offense since he’s been here,” Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said last week via CBS Sports. “A lot of the concepts that he likes, he’ll communicate with us during the week, and he’ll have thoughts.”
As for Jimmy Garoppolo, he’s proven to be the same steadying presence for the 49ers since taking over for the injured Trey Lance in Week 2. Getting the ball out of his hands fast and executing Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Garoppolo has thrown 11 touchdowns to go along with just four interceptions, with a completion percentage of 66.8%.
While McCoy impressed in relief duty last weekend, expect him to struggle more against the Niners defense in Week 11. Garoppolo is the better play in this one.
