White Sox Playoff Odds: Lines Move After Dismal Weekend Series

The Chicago White Sox continue to reach new lows after entering the year with World Series aspirations.

The team has struggled with inconsistent play and injuries all season. It now appears that they’ll be watching the MLB playoffs from their living rooms.

The South-Siders were hoping that a weekend home series with the lowly Diamondbacks would help turn their season around. The result of the series was quite the opposite.

Tony La Russa’s squad was swept by a scrappy Arizona team, dropping the White Sox to five games back in the AL Central. Cleveland is currently in first place, followed by Minnesota.

The White Sox were betting favorites to win the division following a strong showing against the Astros last week. Their odds have now fallen well behind the Guardians and Twins.

Check out the updated AL Central Division odds below, per DraftKings:

AL Central Division Champion Odds

  • Guardians: -185
  • Twins: +150
  • White Sox: +650
  • Royals/Tigers: +100000

White Sox Playoff Odds

The current odds for the Chicago White Sox to make the postseason are +350 following their series against the Diamondbacks.

La Russa admitted that he’s “frustrated” with his ball club’s current level of play, but also said that there is time to get things right in the final month of the 2022 season.

“Worst thing you can do is get frustrated and depressed, discouraged,” the skipper said after Saturday’s loss. “Get angry. Do something about it tomorrow. That’s the message. Get some adrenaline pumping and get back to even.”

For La Russa, the stakes cannot be higher. He’ll need the White Sox to mount a miraculous turnaround and make a playoff charge. Otherwise, the veteran skipper will be forced into retirement following Chicago’s dismal season.
