Chase Young’s Knee Injury Keeps Washington Commanders Super Bowl Odds Near Bottom of the Board

Washington Commanders fans were hit with some rough news regarding star defensive end Chase Young prior to the season.

After suffering injuries to his ACL and MCL last season, the Commanders placed the young defensive star on the reserve/physically unable to perform list Tuesday, meaning he’ll be unavailable for (at least) the first four games of the regular season.

Of course, the news surrounding Young impacts many different aspects of the Commanders’ season, but perhaps its even more reason for bettors to fade Washington heavily this season.

Per DraftKings, the Commanders opened as a long shot at +5000 to win the Super Bowl. But now, the team’s odds have since lengthened to +7000, which ranks 22nd out of the league’s 32 teams.

Earlier in the offseason, Ron Rivera admitted that Young will probably miss a good portion of the regular season.

“He’s probably going to miss a little bit of time,” Rivera said on 106.7 The Fan, per ProFootballTalk.

Now, Rivera still doesn’t know exactly when he’ll get his defensive end back.

“As we go through this, it’s hard to predict on recovery time,” Rivera said Tuesday. “This injury is a little bit more severe than the average one is, and because of that, the timeline is a little bit longer. What is that timeline? I can’t tell you.”

The Washington Commanders remain one of the most curious teams heading into the season. After a successful 2020-21 season, they struggled mightily last year, finishing 7-10.

Rivera is turning to veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to lead the Commanders. But it’ll most definitely hurt not to have Young available for the foreseeable future.
