Chiefs-49ers Bets & Prediction: Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Bounce Back on the Road (Oct 23)

The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are each coming off a loss in NFL Week 6, but under very different circumstances. The 49ers lost to the underwhelming Atlanta Falcons, while the Chiefs fell at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. These teams will face each other as they look to bounce back, so let’s discuss how things might play out on both sides of the ball with the help of OddsShopper.

49ers Offense vs. Chiefs Defense

The 49ers laid an egg in Week 6, falling by two touchdowns on the road to the Falcons. They scored only 14 points, which came on the heels of scoring 37 points against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5. Their offense has had plenty of problems this season, scoring fewer than 20 points in a game three times. They decided reinforcements were needed, and they made a splash Thursday night by acquiring running back Christian McCaffrey in a trade with the Panthers. Given how little time he’ll have leading up to Sunday, he will likely be limited, if he plays at all.

Though the Chiefs lost to the Bills by four, their defense did a pretty good job against Josh Allen and company, holding them to 24 points. With how good the Chiefs offense has been at putting points on the board, their defense is often facing a lot of passing situations as the opposing team tries to play catch-up. That has resulted in them allowing the sixth-most yards passing per game in the NFL. That could lead to added production for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Chiefs Offense vs. 49ers Defense

Patrick Mahomes has not skipped a beat with Tyreek Hill no longer on the team. The Chiefs are averaging 29.8 points per game, and Mahomes already has 17 touchdown passes. They continue to get huge contributions from Travis Kelce, who has 41 receptions for 455 yards and seven touchdowns.

This will be a tough test for the Chiefs offense, with the 49ers allowing just 14.8 points per game. They really haven’t shown a weakness, allowing the second-fewest yards passing per game. If there is a concern, it’s that pass rusher  Nick Bosa (groin) and several members of their secondary are battling injuries. If San Francisco doesn’t receive some reinforcements, Mahomes and the Chiefs offense could thrive. The NFL Player Props Tool has Mahomes projected to throw for 276.7 yards and 2.1 touchdowns.

Chiefs-49ers Pick

This game being played in San Francisco is noteworthy given the 49ers are 2-0 at home. They are just 1-3 on the road, already matching their road losses on the road last season. As good as their defense can be, Mahomes can pick apart anyone when he’s at the top of his game. Don’t expect the 49ers to have enough firepower to pull out the win here, especially since McCaffrey likely won’t have enough time to be integrated into their offense much, if at all.
