The Texans are on a fast track to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft with their 1-7-1 overall record. The Commanders are last in a competitive NFC East with a 5-5 clip but have won four of their last five games.

Washington is Riding Hot Streak
In a run that started with a 12-7 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, Washington has won four of its last five games to get back to .500. The latest victory for the Commanders was a 32-21 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles, bringing an end to their rival’s undefeated season on Monday Night Football.
Bettors have been wise to back this team of late. The Commanders have covered the number four times and pushed as a 3-point underdog during their lone loss to the Minnesota Vikings over that span. But this week marks the biggest favorite Washington has been since laying a field goal against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the home opener.
Perhaps that is warranted with the way the team has been playing since Taylor Heinicke took over as starting quarterback. The Commanders are 3-1 with him under center entering this weekend, and he’s coming off a 211-yard performance against the Eagles.
Can Houston End Losing Skid?
While Washington has been on a run, Houston has yet to win a game since a 13-6 victory over the Jaguars on Oct. 9. The Texans have dropped four in a row since their Week 6 bye, including a 2416 defeat at the New York Giants last weekend.
It hasn’t been any better from a betting perspective, either. The only time the Texans have covered during this losing streak was a 29-17 loss to the Eagles as a 14-point underdog. Houston is 4-4-1 against the spread so far this season.
Final Commanders-Texans Prediction & Pick
The way these two teams are playing right now, it doesn’t really make sense to bet on the worst team in the NFL. But that’s exactly what we are doing, as anything at a field goal or above is worth taking a shot on the home underdog in this ugly football game.
Washington might have the hot hand, but this team is probably a bit overvalued by the market at this point. It is easy to forget the Commanders bested the Packers and the Colts by a combined three points, and perhaps this spread would be lower if those coin-flips had gone the other way.
I will bet against Washington winning a game by more than a field goal, even against the No. 32 team in the NFL. Despite being a low-quality matchup the NFL odds for this one are promising.
