Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Tyler Allgeier: Which Falcons RB Has More Fantasy Football Value?

Is Atlanta Falcons rookie running back Tyler Allgeier a name to watch on the fantasy football waiver wire? After a strong Week 15 performance, let’s gauge the Tyler AllgeierCordarrelle Patterson fantasy questions for NFL Week 16 and the fantasy playoffs.

Cordarrelle PattersonTyler Allgeier Fantasy Football Ranking

Per the Stokastic weekly fantasy football rankings, Cordarrelle Patterson (No. 23) ranks ahead of Tyler Allgeier (No. 35). And using those projections, Patterson is at 10.20 fantasy points, with Allgeier at 8.73.

Allgeier played 49% of the Falcons snaps in a Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints and turned in his best performance to date, rushing for 139 yards and one touchdown. According to Next Gen Stats, his 75.6% success rate was the highest of any player with at least 15 carries in an NFL game this season, and he leads rookies with 136 rushing yards over expected.

“He’s an instinctive player, smart, hard to tackle. You feel him,” Atlanta coach Arthur Smith said, via The Athletic. “He’s a volume guy. As the game goes on, guys don’t like tackling him. I’m really excited about him. He’s been good for us.”

Allgeier, a fifth-round pick out of BYU, leads Atlanta with 743 yards on 148 carries. When Patterson was out with injury from Weeks 5-9, Allgeier played in over 50% of snaps in each game. However, he failed to run for 100 yards in any of those matchups and scored only one touchdown.

Now, Allgeier is a more confident player, and he’s looking to finish the season on a high note.

“It’s just reps,” he said. “I think just getting more comfortable, getting the speed down and all that. Still have stuff to learn.”

Although playing behind Cordarrelle Patterson will hinder some of his fantasy football value, Tyler Allgeier is worth a pickup if you have an extra roster spot. With Desmond Ridder as the Falcons starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, they’ll be running the ball more than ever, and looking for more growth out of their exciting rookie running back.
