Giants-Eagles Weather Report: Will Conditions Help New York End Long Losing Streak in Philadelphia?

It’s late January in the Northeast, but the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are likely to have ideal conditions Saturday night when they play in the NFC Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. The Giants-Eagles weather report is calling for winter temperatures but no precipitation and very little wind for the game in Philadelphia.

Giants-Eagles Weather Report

Per the Weather Channel, the forecast for Saturday night is for partly cloudy skies with temperatures near 30 and light winds of 4 mph. Those are similar if slightly colder conditions than when the teams played at Philadelphia on Jan. 8 in the regular-season finale, a late-afternoon game won by the Eagles 22-16.

It will be much different than when the Eagles played in the playoffs last season, losing 31-15 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a very windy day that had an effect on special teams and field position. With temperatures in the mid 60s, Philadelphia trailed 31-0 in the fourth quarter of the NFC Wild Card game.

“It helps a lot, just learning from the mistakes we made last year, not being on the same page and things like that,” Philadelphia wide receiver Davonta Smith told the Eagles website. “So, going into this game, it’s important that we’re on the same page and not having any miscommunications and playing our game.”

The Giants played indoors last week when they won at the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 in the NFC Wild Card Round. It was their first playoff victory since winning the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots following the 2011 NFL season, also played indoors in Indianapolis.

New York has not won a playoff game outdoors since Jan. 22, 2012, when it won at the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in overtime in the NFC Championship game.

The Eagles are 7.5-point favorites, using the Odds Shopper tools for the best NFL lines. The Giants have lost nine straight games at Lincoln Financial Field, their longest losing streak at any venue in their 98-season history.

With weather seemingly not a concern, New York can focus on overcoming the raucous Philadelphia crowd.

“I expect it to be a hostile environment. It’s the playoffs. That’s how it’s going to be,” New York running back Saquon Barkley told the Giants website. “You know how Philly fans are. Growing up in Pennsylvania, obviously I wasn’t a Philly fan growing up, but had a lot of Philly fans, I know how passionate they are.

“It’s going to be fun. This is the stuff that you dream about as a kid. That’s what the atmosphere was like in Minnesota. Another great atmosphere going to Philadelphia.”
