Keenan Allen Injury Update

Latest Keenan Allen Injury Update (8:37 AM Eastern): The WR is expected to play on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Chargers have come to rely on veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen this year. Allen leads the NFL in targets (129) and receptions (97). He ranks third in receiving yards (1,117) and fifth in touchdowns (7). He is also now questionable with a quad injury.

Allen failed to practice on both Wednesday and Thursday with the injury, but he returned in a limited manner on Friday. As a veteran, Allen doesn’t need much practice time to get prepared for a game — especially a game against a reeling Patriots team — but his two-day absence is a serious concern.

On Friday, Allen sounded like he planned to play, but that decision falls on head coach Brandon Staley, not him. Still, with the Chargers sitting at 4-7 and in desperate need of some wins to keep their playoff hopes alive, I suspect Staley won’t err on the side of caution.

Is Keenan Allen Playing for Los Angeles on Sunday?

So is Keenan Allen playing for the Chargers on Sunday? It’s close, but I think he plays. Missing two days of practice is a bad sign for any player, but again, veteran players tend to need less time to prepare than less experienced ones.

Allen’s comments to the media on Friday inspire some confidence that he’ll play. He said that he felt “great,” adding that “this late in the season, I couldn’t ask to be feeling any better.” Allen’s receiving yardage prop sits all the way up at 90.5 on bet365, so the books seem to have some faith in Allen’s ability to produce on Sunday.

With Allen’s receiving yardage prop so high, a bet on the over for backup receiver Jalen Guyton could prove sharp. His total is set to only 24.5 at bet365. Even if Allen doesn’t miss Sunday’s game he could get a few more snaps off than usual, creating opportunities for other players to succeed.

If you’re new to bet365, you can get $150 in bets after betting $5 — or up to $1,000 in bonus bets back if your first wager loses — and if you’re a Louisiana resident, you can take advantage of the sportsbook’s recent launch for $365 in bonus bets after betting $1!
