Lions-Packers Playoff Scenarios: Detroit Hoping For SNF Miracle

The Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday Night Football matchup at Lambeau Field has heavy NFC Playoff implications. While the Packers certainly have an easier path to secure the seventh and final NFC playoff spot, the door is still slightly open for the Lions. Ahead of the primetime game, let’s take a look at the Lions-Packers playoff scenarios.

Lions-Packers Playoff Scenarios For SNF

For the Packers, it’s easy: win and they’re in. Currently sitting in the third and final wild card spot, the Packers can complete their magical run to the postseason at home against their division rival. The opportunity comes after being 4-8 to start the season, ruled out of the race by many in and around the NFL. But Aaron Rodgers and co. were able to get hot and rattle off four straight wins to set up a situation where they can control their own destiny.

“It feels really special. It does,” Rodgers said after the Vikings win in Week 17, per Yahoo Sports. “It’s been an interesting year. It hasn’t been my best football at times. But I’ve been asked to step up my leadership, and be someone the guys can count on to keep it together.”

But the Lions also have a path to steal the playoff spot and spoil the great story in Green Bay, even if it is much more unlikely. Detroit would need to beat the Packers and have the Seahawks lose or tie against the Los Angeles Rams in the afternoon slate, and they’ll snatch the wild card spot from the Packers’ grasp.

“Either we’re playing to get in or we’re playing to be spoiler, and that’s it,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “So either way, we win.”

Whether or not the Lions are paying attention to the Rams-Seahawks game this afternoon, they should know if they have a shot at the postseason prior to the Sunday Night Football kickoff.

“I know we’ll put up a hell of a fight, one way or another,” Campbell said.
