The Latest Sean Payton-Broncos News Has Fans Ready to Run Through a Brick Wall

The Denver Broncos sure appear to be heavily interested in bringing in Sean Payton as head coach to try to clean up their mess following the disastrous season for Russell Wilson and company. After rumblings all weekend, the latest Sean Payton-Broncos news has Denver fans ready to believe again.

Latest Sean Payton-Broncos News

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos requested and received permission from the NFL to interview Sean Payton for their vacant head coach position. But any in-person interview cannot be conducted until Jan. 17. Moreover, the Broncos are aware that the New Orleans Saints may require a first-round draft pick in exchange for Payton, and are moving forward with the pursuit anyway.

On Sunday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that negotiations between the Saints and Broncos had begun on a potential Sean Payton-Broncos deal. The team is also expected to seek an interview with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

During Payton’s weekly appearance on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” he went in-depth on how he would try to get the most out of Wilson following his disappointing season.

“You correct flaws immediately, and then we don’t worry about how long the process is going to take,” Payton said, per Saints Wire. “In other words, I’d want to cut up today, I’d want a cut up of all of Russell’s pass plays of 30 or more yards from the field, and I’d want to see ‘Are there are some schemes that he felt very comfortable with?’”

He also pointed to the scheme Wilson had with the Seattle Seahawks as evidence that there are ways to get more out of Wilson than Denver implemented in his first year with them.

“Like I know they did a great job in Seattle of bringing him in off of a naked boot and then pulling up, and we all saw that throwback to (Tyler) Lockett across the field where the ball traveled 60 yards in the air,” Payton added.

With the rumors only just beginning, Sean Payton has also been linked to the Carolina Panthers opening, but that seems a little more unlikely at this time. We’ll await any more news on the Sean Payton-Broncos connection, but if the reports are any indication, Denver is looking to make a big splash in the near future.
