NFL Betting Splits Tonight: Total Drawing Sharp Money for TNF

“Fade the public!” is one of the most common refrains in sports betting. However, bettors have to know where to look if they want to identify the teams that everybody but the sharps are targeting. Here are the key NFL betting splits and public sides for Thursday night’s 49ers-Seahawks matchup.

San Francisco a Popular Pick to Cover

Even though starting quarterback Brock Purdy is questionable for Thursday Night Football, all signs point to him suiting up. If he sits, veteran Josh Johnson will draw the start. Bettors have been eager to back the 49ers, who are now trading at -3 — down from -3.5 yesterday — despite the concerning injury news.

According to Pregame, the 49ers had attracted 67% of the cash on 68% of the tickets. VSiN, which reports data directly from DraftKings Sportsbook, shows that San Francisco has drawn 53% of the cash but on 71% of the tickets. So while the 49ers have drawn more money than the Seahawks, bettors with a larger unit size have more frequently backed Seattle to cover. Still, the splits aren’t wide enough for bettors to jump at a chance to fade a public-backed San Francisco team.

Under Picking Up Sharp Money

The total for Thursday night’s action opened at 41.5, but that number has ticked up to 43.5 over the week. However, some books have started to reduce that number, possibly because of the under gaining steam among sharps.

VSiN reports that 57% of the cash at DraftKings is on the under — on only 38% of the tickets. Pregame reports suggest the under isn’t quite as popular, as it’s showing 43% of the cash backing the under on just 38% of the tickets. Bettors looking for a sharp play would be better off buying the under than backing Seattle to cover.
