Tyreek Hill Injury Update

The Dolphins suffered a brutal loss to the Titans last weekend in more ways than one. With the injury to Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins are in danger of missing the man who leads both the team and the league in receiving yards with 1,542. Hill’s 1,557 scrimmage yards account for 27.6% of Miami’s total, so his absence wouldn’t be apocalyptic, but it’s worth wondering whether his ability to take the top off opposing defenses is what has allowed his teammates to succeed.

Hill failed to practice at all this week while rehabbing his ankle. He still picked up a questionable tag, which isn’t surprising — Hill is a veteran, after all, so he doesn’t need practice reps as much as his younger teammates. Still, not practicing at all usually means a player will end up sitting.

Head coach Mike McDaniel provided some insight into Hill’s status. “If he’s confident that he can go be himself, and I have the support of the trainers that are responsible to the risk, then he’ll play,” McDaniel said. “If not, then he won’t,” he added.

Is Tyreek Hill Playing for Miami on Sunday?

So, is Tyreek Hill playing for the Dolphins on Sunday? I doubt it, but it’s possible. Hill has both his career and his team’s postseason hopes to worry about, and tapping back in too early for a home game against the lowly Jets seems unwise, especially with games against the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills wrapping up the schedule.

The Dolphins didn’t make any roster moves that offer insight into Hill’s status, but that likely stems from the fact they keep eight wide receivers on the 53-man roster.

The betting markets have shifted in a way that suggests some skepticism of Miami’s offense and Hill’s availability. After opening as a 13.5-point home favorite, the Dolphins have been slowly bid down to only a 9-point favorite at bet365. No books are taking player prop action on the team’s receivers.

Still, some value may exist on the touchdown markets — if you don’t believe Hill plays, Jaylen Waddle may see his anytime touchdown scorer odds shorten from +150 at bet365 to about +125 or so. His odds vary from +185 at FanDuel to +130 at Caesars. If you’re new to bet365, you can get $150 in bets after betting $5 — or up to $1,000 in bonus bets back if your first wager loses.
