2023 Genesis Invitational Betting Trends: Tiger Woods & Justin Thomas Popular Plays

Tiger Woods enters the Genesis Invitational as a heavy underdog at +13000, but he’s still the most bet-on player in the entire field. According to BetMGM‘s John Ewing, Woods leads the way for bet tickets to win the Genesis Invitational (9.7%), he’s followed by Justin Thomas (9.0%) and Jordan Spieth (6.9%). Woods also has the highest handle percentage (14.9%). Tiger is followed there by Spieth (9.1%) and Rory McIlroy (8.0%).

Woods admitted when speaking with media earlier in the week that some rust will likely show out on the course this weekend. The last time we saw Woods compete on the PGA Tour, he failed to make the cut in last year’s Open Championship. He was forced to withdraw from a tournament in December due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He has maintained that he’ll never fully recover from the scary single-car crash in 2021.

“As far as the recovery, it’s more my ankle, whether I can recover from day to day,” Woods said during a news conference on Tuesday, per ESPN. “The leg is better than it was last year, but it’s my ankle. So being able to have it recover from day to day and meanwhile still stress it but have the recovery and also have the strength development at the same time, it’s been an intricate little balance that we’ve had to dance.”

The stacked field Woods will be going up against in the Genesis Invitational includes the likes of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, etc. Still, he believes he has a chance to compete, or else he wouldn’t be withstanding the pain in order to give it a go.

“I would not have put myself out here if I didn’t think I could beat these guys and win the event,” Woods said Tuesday. “That’s my mentality.”

Sure, Woods might be a large underdog, but based on the latest Genesis Invitational betting trends, a lot of people out there are willing to take a bet on the off-chance we see Woods charging in his patented Sunday red to cap off this weekend. What an incredible sports story that would be…
