2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Outright Bet: Beau Hossler (30-1, DraftKings)

Beau Hossler immediately fits the theme of a guy searching for a breakthrough win. He has been so close over the years, and there is no doubting the talent at times from Hossler, especially when he keeps the ball striking respectable. His putter can be electric, so syncing it all up is always the key thing with him. Plus, his odds of 30-1 in this field are pretty generous considering the lack of firepower at the top of the board.

Hossler has played already in swing season, finishing a respectable 30th at the Fortinet despite major issues off the tee. It is never wise to overanalyze one start, but he had positive numbers on the approach and with the putter. Numerous players who aren’t considered elite off the tee have excelled around Sanderson Farms, and this fits with where Hossler is right now. At 30-1, he is the first click on the outright card this week and has the tools to win on tour.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Outright Bet: Doug Ghim (50-1, FanDuel)

Much of what can be said about Hossler is applicable to Ghim, as he is also trying to connect the dots for four rounds in one event. Ghim has shown flashes, and most of the time it’s the putter that holds him back. At the Wyndham he lost over nine strokes putting, but last time out at Fortinet he gained nearly three strokes with the flat stick. That type of erratic short game always makes him a volatile option, but he is worth the gamble at 50-1.

Ghim was 17th in that lone swing season start, and going back to last May, he has only missed one cut. Of course, made cuts don’t equal outright wins, but Ghim keeps giving himself chances, and this number offers a lot to work with.

2023 Sanderson Farms Championship Outright Bet: Alex Noren (70-1, FanDuel)

Sorry, but 70-1 is too good to pass up. Alex Noren is at the top of the list of guys I’ve chased in the outright market with little to no success, but it only takes one to recoup all that money. Noren missed the cut at the Fortinet, so there are immediate concerns that his game isn’t in form. However, before that he was trending upwards to close the season, with four made cuts in five events, including a top-10 at Rocket Mortgage. The upside of his putter combined with this weak field keeps him in the conversation at this number.

Noren has not played at this venue, but that pushes his number further down the board. This setup should suit him fine, as he doesn’t need to go crazy off the tee and these fast greens could work to his advantage. Now, it won’t matter if his ball striking isn’t at a level to keep him in contention, but as a dark horse, 70-1 for a guy with this much experience is worth a look.
