Carlos Carrasco’s form this year has been quite miserable. In 11 starts (53 innings, 2-3), he has a low 16.3% SO rate (6.62/9), high .371 wOBA (and a worse .395 xwOBA), and very alarming 6.51 xERA and 5.21 xFIP marks. While vulnerable to batters from both sides of the plate, Carrasco has been much weaker against right-handed batters – .410 wOBA (compared to .326), .598 SLG (compared to .366), and 2.79 HR/9 (compared to 1.13). Given Carrasco’s rates against righties, targeting a capable righty against him makes a lot of sense.
Christian Walker is one of Arizona’s better hitters and is very good against both righties and lefties.
