Best MLB Player Prop: Logan Gilbert | July 9

Logan Gilbert Prop O/U 2.5 Earned Runs

Logan Gilbert has had some dominating starts this season. Even before his complete-game shutout against the San Francisco Giants, Gilbert was slinging the ball well. His 3.40 xERA and .238 xOBA are career bests and have been on full display as of late. That’s not even the best part of his game; his 4.7% walk rate ranks in the top 5% of MLB pitchers.

The scary part of attacking this prop is how deep Gilbert will go into the game. Luckily, the Mariners bullpen is fresh, with Luis Castillo and Bryan Woo having stellar starts to kick off the series. The two combined to go 13 innings and allow only three runs, two of which were earned. Gilbert is projected to go six innings today but has stayed under this prop in nine of 11 games when getting 18-plus outs.

Don’t be surprised to see a wonky Astros lineup. Sunday lineups can be peculiar, especially with a team like the Astros who are dealing with the injury bug. They’ll most likely platoon right-handed bats in their lineup to alter Gilbert. Righties have a .267 OBP against Gilbert compared to lefties finding their way on with a .251 average. Even so, Gilbert is pitching at his best and will look for some vengeance after not being named to the All-Star Game that is being held in Seattle.
