World Series Odds: Astros Favored to Repeat as MLB Champs

MLB Spring Training starts Friday and “hope springs eternal” for all thirty teams. But some of those teams have better odds to make the Fall Classic than others. The Houston Astros head into the season as favorites to repeat as World Series champs. However, there are several contenders right behind them. Let’s take a look at the top ten MLB teams on the World Series Champion odds board.

2023 World Series Champion Odds: Astros Lead the Way

Per Caesars Sportsbook:

Houston Astros  +500
New Yankees Yankees  +750
New York Mets  +800
Los Angeles Dodgers  +800
San Diego Padres  +1000
Atlanta Braves  +1000
Philadelphia Phillies  +1400
Toronto Blue Jays  +1500
Seattle Mariners  +1700
St. Louis Cardinals  +2200

The Astros and New York Yankees are neck and neck on the World Series futures market. The Astros are favored at +500 but the Yankees are close behind at +750. They are followed by the New York Mets (+800), Los Angeles Dodgers (+800) and San Diego Padres (+1000).

The Astros and Yankees met a year ago in the ALCS with the Astros sweeping the series in four games. It was a disappointing showing for the Yankees who were riding high after a historic season by Aaron Judge. Free agency rumors swirled around Judge in the offseason, but he eventually chose to remain a Yankee. In doing so, he will get a chance at revenge against Houston this year.

In the National League, the Dodgers are the favorite despite losing to the Padres in the playoffs last season. San Diego made the NLCS, losing to the Philadelphia Phillies. However, the Dodgers move past both teams after making several moves over the winter to improve their club. They added veteran SP Noah Syndergaard, DH J.D. Martinez and OF Jason Heyward to an already stacked roster.

San Diego is hoping that a full season with superstar SS Fernando Tatis Jr. will elevate them past the rest of the pack toward a World Series championship. Tatis missed most of last season due to injury and a suspension for performance enhancing drugs.

The New York Mets are the top team in the National League with +800 odds to win it all. The Mets made the biggest splash over the offseason, with the team and owner Steve Cohen shelling out almost $500 million in free agency. They retained OF Brandon Nimmo and closer Edwin Diaz on multi-year deals. The Mets bolstered their pitching staff by signing Justin Verlander to a 2-year $86M contract in addition to adding Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana. Catcher Omar Narvaez will join them as a part-time battery mate.

The final four teams on the odds board– the Atlanta Braves (+1000),  Philadelphia Phillies (+1400), Toronto Blue Jays (+1500), Seattle Mariners (+1700) and St. Louis Cardinals (+2200)– all made the postseason last year and are hoping to repeat, and then some. The Phillies bring back much of the experienced roster that made the World Series last year before losing to the Astros.

All the remaining teams on the odds board  have a strong shot to get back, and once they make the playoffs anybody has a shot to take someone out and make it to the World Series.
