It’s no secret that Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard has been more impressive than his veteran backfield mate, Ezekiel Elliott, this season. And now, Pollard will have the opportunity to shine with the bell-cow duties.
Ahead of their Week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy revealed that Elliott is not expected to play this week as he continues to nurse a knee injury.

With Elliott out in Week 8, Pollard ran all over a poor Chicago Bears defense, rushing for 131 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, Pollard has 506 yards and five touchdowns, also catching 12 of 19 targets for 121 yards. His 6.2 yards per carry far outshines Elliot’s 4.1 through this point of the season.
Still, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys brass has maintained that the RB1 job belongs to Elliott when he’s healthy and ready to play.
“There’s no argument,” Jones said after the Bears game, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Zeke’s ability to punish, Zeke’s ability to deliver, Zeke’s ability, what he does for us in pass protection, and, frankly, Zeke’s ability to make big plays are there, and we’re going to go as Zeke goes. I really mean he’s that integral to our success this year.”
