Broncos Head Coach Odds: Dan Quinn & Sean Payton Favored to Succeed Nathaniel Hackett

The odds for the Denver Broncos‘ next head coach have been released amid their interview process. Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn are the current betting favorites as the search heats up.

DraftKings Sportsbook is offering lines on Denver’s next head coach. Per the odds, Quinn and Payton are headed for a two-horse race.

Dan Quinn & Sean Payton Favored in Odds for Denver Broncos‘ Next Head Coach

Per DraftKings:

Quinn put together a great audition for any head coaching job on Monday night. Facing Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Quinn's defense held their opponents off the board for the first half before cruising to a 31-14 victory in the Super Wild Card Round.

The Cowboys' defensive coordinator is set to interview with the Broncos on Friday. The team has already spoken with former Stanford head coach David Shaw, current Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. They have interviews scheduled with San Francisco 49ers defensive Coordinator DeMeco Ryans and former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton on Tuesday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported this past weekend that Ryans, Quinn and Harbaugh are the three front-runners to land the Broncos head coach job. But Harbaugh has since pulled his hat out of the ring, opting instead to stay with the Michigan Wolverines for the 2023-24 season.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is believed to have given Quinn a substantial raise to remain the team's defensive coordinator this season after a successful first year on the job.

"We obviously did everything we could to keep Dan last year,'' Jones said, per SI. "And we feel the same way about it this year.”

Quinn was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-20. He led them to the Super Bowl in 2017. Before that, he worked as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks from 2013-14 during the "Legion of Boom" era.

Winning the Sean Payton sweepstakes may prove to be a little more complicated for the Broncos, with compensation needed to be worked out with the New Orleans Saints in order to acquire the head coach. However, Payton indicated on Monday that the Broncos would fulfill the Saints' needs if the two sides reached an agreement on him to become their next head coach.

“Ultimately, the compensation for the Saints would be a mid- or late first-round pick,” Payton said, per ESPN. “Each team has different ammo or different pick selections. It could be a future one where maybe you have to throw in something.”

Payton has drawn interest from several other teams looking for a new head coach, including the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers.

Based on the current betting odds for the Broncos' next head coach, the organization has zeroed in on Dan Quinn and Sean Payton. But as we've seen in the past, that mindset could change if a dark horse candidate blows them away in the interview process.
