Is Gardner Minshew a Fantasy Football Pick Up Following Jalen Hurts Injury News?

Should fantasy football players be rostering Gardner Minshew? On Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Minshew could be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday after an MRI revealed that QB1 Jalen Hurts sprained his shoulder during a win against the Chicago Bears last week. Let’s take a look at Gardner Minshew ahead of the Eagles-Cowboys matchup to see if he is worth being a fantasy football pick up.

Gardner Minshew Fantasy Football Value

When looking at the potential Gardner Minshew fantasy football impact, Stokastic’s Nick Lepri pointed to the matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16 as a reason Minshew could find success.

“Yeah, I actually think Gardner is a real interesting pickup if guys like Daniel Jones or Brock Purdy aren’t available. The Cowboys defense has been incredibly soft over the last two games, and with the weapons Minshew has, he could fall backwards into a top 12 QB finish,” Lepri said.

Minshew has proven in the past that he can be a serviceable backup for Hurts. The last time we saw the veteran quarterback, he was 20 of 25 for 242 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-18 win over the New York Jets last December.

Speaking to the media Monday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said they would be ready for Minshew.

“We’ve already looked at our last game of the year with Gardner, so we’ll be ready for Gardner and Jalen,” McCarthy said Monday, via Pro Football Talk. “We’ll be ready for both quarterbacks.”

The Cowboys have a star-studded defense that includes one of the best pass rushes in the NFL. But as Lepri pointed out, they haven’t been as stingy of late. Dallas allowed Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence to go off for 318 yards and four touchdowns in a Week 15 OT loss and now rank 19th in fantasy football points allowed to opposing quarterbacks.

If Jalen Hurts is unable to go this weekend, view Gardner Minshew as a low-end fantasy football pick up.
