NFL Week 1 Anytime Touchdown Bets: Picks for Jaguars-Colts, Packers-Bears & More

Jaguars-Colts Anytime Touchdown Bet

When: Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. ET
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis
Who: Travis Etienne Jr. at DraftKings

The Indianapolis Colts could give up a ton of scores to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. They may be only a 4.5-point underdog, but this offense has the potential to look absolutely impotent with rookie Anthony Richardson at the helm, giving the Jaguars friendly field position and a handful of extra chances to score. That could mean big things for Travis Etienne Jr. and the Jaguars.

The Colts lost some key pieces in the offseason. Gone is inside linebacker Bobby Okereke, who ranked second in total tackles (151) last year. That could open up some rushing lanes for Etienne. Further, it’s not like the Colts were that good against the run last year — they gave up the sixth-most rushing scores to running backs (14) and were tied for the 12th-most receiving scores allowed to the position (3).

Etienne only scored five touchdowns last year, but it took him a few weeks to fully claim the starting job, and the volume was there for him down the stretch. Etienne had a team-high 40 carries within the 20-yard line, 50% of the team’s total, and logged another 23 within the 10-yard line, good for 47.9%. Etienne is priced at only -105 (51.2%) at FanDuel, but we can buy him up at +140 (41.7%) at DraftKings.

Packers-Bears Anytime Touchdown Bet

When: Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4:25 p.m. ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago
Who: Justin Fields at FanDuel

The Green Bay Packers will visit the Chicago Bears as underdogs on Sunday. Chicago’s offense, led by quarterback Justin Fields, looked fiery at points last year but got little help from the defense. Fields ran the ball 160 times for 1,143 yards and eight scores last year. Of those carries, 31 were within the 20-yard line and 15 were within the 10. He controlled 29.8% of the carries from the first line and 34.9% of the second.

Fields was Chicago’s preferred goal-line rusher last year. He carried the ball 10 times with five or fewer yards to go, 50% of Chicago’s total carries from that range, and converted half of them for a touchdown. With David Montgomery, the team’s bulky goal-line back, off for Detroit, Fields’ volume could increase. Montgomery was the only player with more carries within the 20- and 10-yard line.

Green Bay’s defense was terrible against the run last year and should struggle again this year. The Packers ranked 31st in expected points added (EPA) per play allowed on the ground last year. They lost defensive linemen Jarran Reed and Dean Lowry in the offseason as well, which should create some openings in the trenches. Let’s back Fields to find paydirt in Week 1.

Panthers-Falcons Anytime Touchdown Bet

Expert: Justin Martin
Watch: FOX
When: Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia
Who: Bijan Robinson at Caesars

The most exciting rookie in the 2023 class will make his debut tomorrow at home against the woeful Carolina Panthers. First-round pick Bjian Robinson is the most highly touted rookie running back since Saquon Barkley. Speaking of Barkley, he was fed in his debut and found the endzone. I expect the same from Robinson.

Sportsbooks have opened up Robinson’s rush attempts line at 15.5. Not only do they expect Robinson to have high usage but to find the endzone as well. Caesars and DraftKings are the only major books to have his anytime touchdown at odds higher than even. FanDuel, at the time of publication, had Robinson at -130 to score.

The best part about backing Bijan Robinson is that the game script should have no effect on his usage, especially against a team like the Carolina Panthers, who come in as 3.5-point underdogs. Robinson is a three-down back who excels in the passing game and will work wonders with second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder.

Veteran gadget back Cordarrelle Patterson has been limited at practice all week and is questionable heading into Sunday. Meanwhile, we’ll have to wait and see how the Falcons use Tyler Allgeier with Robinson listed as the number one back on the depth chart, but most of the work on the ground will come from Robinson, who looked explosive on his first carry of the preseason.
