NFL Week 1 Odds: Bettors Expecting Another Ravens-Chiefs Snoozer on TNF

NFL schedule release 2024 descends upon us this week, but we do know for sure two of the matchups in Week 1: Ravens-Chiefs on Thursday and Packers-Eagles on Friday. DraftKings has also released game lines for those two, and the odds are already moving a bit. Let’s take a look at the NFL Week 1 odds for these two games — spoiler alert, the public is not holding out hope for a barnburner in one of them.

NFL Week 1 Odds: Ravens-Chiefs, Packers-Eagles

Ravens-Chiefs Week 1 Odds

Per DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Spread: Ravens +3 (-110), Chiefs -3 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Ravens +130, Chiefs -155
  • Total: Over 47.5 (-110), Under 47.5 (-110)

The total is the first Ravens-Chiefs line to note because it is the only one that has already moved in the hours since the odds went up. The spread and moneylines have both held firm; however, the total opened at 49.5 and has dropped two whole points due to the money coming in on the under.

Shoutout to the top comment on this Twitter post, which said they were going to hammer the under since it would be “the most boring game ever.” It looks like plenty of users agreed and have subsequently pushed the line down.

It’s hard to argue with the logic there. This is a rematch of an absolute snoozer of an AFC Championship Game that Kansas City won 17-10 — and saw 3 whole points in the second half. That said, this is a matchup between the twice-defending Super Bowl champions and the reigning NFL MVP, so maybe there will be fireworks.

Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs enter the 2024-25 season as Super Bowl favorites at +550, slightly ahead of the team they faced in San Francisco (+600). The Ravens are a bit behind at +900, but that is third best in the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes is the favorite for NFL MVP (+600), and his Week 1 Thursday Night Football counterpart, Lamar Jackson, is fifth at +1000.

Packers-Eagles Week 1 Odds

Per DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Spread: Packers +1.5 (-108), Eagles -1.5 (-112)
  • Moneyline: Packers -102, Eagles -118
  • Total: Over 48.5 (-110), Under 48.5 (-110)

The Friday night game is a battle between two teams that ended last season in very opposite ways. Green Bay is now pretty confident it has its quarterback in Jordan Love after he ended the season strong, including scoring 48 points in a Round 1 playoff win. Philadelphia, on the other hand, completely cratered, resulting in an embarrassing 32-9 loss to the Buccaneers in the first round.

Still, the Eagles roster on paper is too talented for the odds makers to push the lines too far in the Packers’ direction, so they are still slight 1.5-point favorites at home. There has been a little money on the Philadelphia side of that, however, as the odds have moved ever so slightly to -108 for the Packers to cover 1.5.

The NFC is looking off the charts bizarre this year, and either of these teams jumping up to the No. 1 seed is absolutely in play. We saw the promising Lions beat the Chiefs in the season opener, which got all of our hopes up that they would be really good — and in a rare Detroit W, that’s exactly what happened.

Are the Packers ready for a similar leap? It’s definitely in the cards. But the Eagles also could end up recovering to Super Bowl contention. So what we’re going to do is wait until Sept. 6, and then draw all of the conclusions based on this one game.
