Patrick Mahomes Injury Status Moves Bengals-Chiefs Odds

Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Round, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday morning that the star quarterback will be suiting up for practice today after participating in the walkthrough on Tuesday.

“I think he’s going to do everything. I don’t think that’s going to be an issue,” Reid told reporters Wednesday, per ESPN’s Adam Teicher.

The Chiefs opened as the favorite over the Bengals. That line moved to Bengals -2 amid the uncertainty surrounding Mahomes’ ankle. Now the Chiefs are just 1-point underdogs, +105 on the moneyline (DraftKings). Mahomes limped his way through the 27-20 win over the Jags, completing 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

“I wanted just to continue to play,” Mahomes said after the Divisional Round, per 247 Sports. “I told [head coach Andy Reid] I would do it at halftime, but Coach, in the best interests of me, he made me go back there and get that X-ray before he put me back in the game.

“I thought I could play through it, and then he said, ‘I’m not putting you back in, so you might as well go get the X-ray, and then if it’s negative or whatever, I’ll put you back in.’ So I ran back there, got the X-ray and was able to finish the game.”

The Chiefs have lost back-to-back games against Joe Burrow‘s Bengals, including a 27-24 thriller in last year’s AFC Championship. The Chiefs blew an 18-point lead in that game, with Mahoes turning in a dismal 1.4 QBR in the second half.

Mahomes will now have his chance at redemption, and he isn’t about to let a bum ankle get in the way of his weekly preparation. Be sure to use OddsShopper tools to get the best Bengals-Chiefs odds throughout the week.
