Updated NFL MVP Odds: Patrick Mahomes Overtakes Josh Allen as Favorite

After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a comeback win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Night Football, quarterback Patrick Mahomes now finds himself in a familiar spot: as the consensus favorite to win the NFL MVP Award. Check out the OddsShopper tool for more NFL odds and best bets.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had been the betting favorite since before the season started. And it remained that way that way through the first eight weeks of the season. But after Allen struggled during the Bills’ loss to the New York Jets in Week 9, he’ll find himself behind Mahomes in the odds.

The Chiefs needed every bit of Mahomes' heroics on Sunday night. Playing behind the Titans for most of the matchup, the star QB used his legs to tie up the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. And after a Harrison Butker field goal in OT, the Chiefs were able to come away victorious, winning 20-17.

Mahomes finished the game completing 43 of 68 for 446 yards and a touchdown, running for 63 yards and a touchdown, including the one-yard scamper to convert the two-point conversion in order to get the game to overtime.

"The guy behind the center always gives us a chance,'' Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said to ESPN. "His mental preparation and his physical preparation, it's not like [that of] very many people. He's a guy that's always looking for an edge to improve, to getting better, just to having a complete understanding of exactly what he's seeing and how he could potentially help exploit some of the spots that need to be exploited."

For Josh Allen and the Bills, it was a game to forget last weekend. Despite running for two touchdowns, Allen looked uncomfortable against a tough Jets defense all game long, completing just 18 of 34 passes for 205 yards and two costly interceptions. The Bills would end up losing 20-17 despite having plenty of opportunities to pad their lead early.

"It's tough to win in this league when you're playing a good team and your quarterback plays like s--t," Allen said after the game.

Josh Allen suffered an injury to his throwing elbow during the last series of the loss, and is currently being evaluated for a potential UCL injury.

"We're just going through it, still evaluating it, and we'll see where it goes," coach Sean McDermott said Monday. "I'll know more in the next 24 hours and then probably be able to check in with [the media] back on Wednesday."

The Bills will host the 7-1 Vikings in Week 10, while the Chiefs are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
