Sean Payton Eyeing NFL Return, Recruiting ‘All-Star’ Cast

What are the odds Sean Payton is missing life as an NFL head coach? Well, a Sean Payton return, with Vic Fangio as his alleged pal, appears to be pretty high! According to an absolute bombshell dropped by ESPN, he misses it so much he’s already recruiting assistant coaches in case he wants to take a gig.

Sean Payton Return?

Vic Fangio — of not being a very good head coach fame — is known as an excellent defensive coordinator. In turn, as mentioned by plenty of football people, a pairing with Sean Payton would make for an instant upgrade for most NFL teams in need of a head coach. The Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts fired their head coach during this season. And that doesn’t account for another handful of teams that’ll do the same this offseason, especially if Payton puts his name out there for real.

It does come with a catch, though! As the bombastic Adam Schefter reported, any team that wants to land Sean Payton will not only have to give him and his “all-star” cast a lot of loot, but would also need to hurl the New Orleans Saints some compensation (draft picks) because he “retired” while under contract.

Obviously, this is a developing and fluid story. There’s not even Sean Payton coaching odds out yet as to where he’s most likely to land. A team with either a young or proven quarterback seems most likely. In turn, that likely rules out plenty of places without assets and burdened by decomposing corpses locked in massive contracts cosplaying as NFL quarterbacks.
