Trey Lance Injury News: 49ers Quarterback Carted Off Field With After Being Hit During Running Play

It appears that the San Francisco 49ers will be without quarterback Trey Lance for quite some time.

During the first quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance was in clear pain after taking a hit during an inside run by LB Cody Barton. He immediately reached for his lower leg and received medical attention.

Lance would later be carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast.

Last week, Lance opened his reign as the starting quarterback with the Niners during a matchup with the Chicago Bears. But thanks to a downpour in Chicago, we didn’t get to see Lance’s full skillset on display.

He completed just 46.4% of his passes for 164 yards and an interception during the 19-10 loss.

Before the Seahawks game, 49ers  head coach Kyle Shanahan vowed to use Lance as a runner more.

“That’s his advantage, and that’s what he’s got to keep,” Shanahan told NBC Sports Bay Area this week. “I mean, that’s what gives him an advantage in this league, when you are a threat to run, even though you don’t have to do it every time. It can make things easier on him.

“And it didn’t feel like we gave him 13 runs. I was surprised at that, but I don’t really count the sneaks. I don’t count scrambles, things like that. So they’re not all designed that way. A lot of it had to do with options and stuff.

Now, Lance will likely be out for a while after getting spun round during a designed run. We’ll continue to track for any more updates on the former fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft.
