What is the “Drake Curse”? Rapper Bets $1.15 Million on Super Bowl 58

Rap superstar Drake placed a $1.15 million bet on the Super Bowl, backing the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers outright. But as you may or may not know, Drake has a… questionable record with his betting picks. He recently lost $700,000 on Sean Strickland at UFC 297 — after losing a $500,000 ticket on Strickland’s opponent, Israel Adesanya, at UFC 293. So what is the “Drake Curse,” and what does it say about Super Bowl 58?

What is the “Drake Curse”?

The sides that Drake bets — whether they’re teams or individuals — tend not to do well, hence the “Drake Curse.” Sure, he cashed a big-time ticket on the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals last season, but he’s been on a bit of a cold streak lately, especially in the UFC.

But Drake hasn’t been as unlucky with his NFL picks of late — he bagged $1.6 million when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. However, his prop card wasn’t so hot, as he lost $100,000 on bets for Patrick Mahomes and JuJu Smith-Schuster to score the first touchdown.

He had a similarly solid Super Bowl 56. Drake bet $480,000 on the Los Angeles Rams to win and another $400,000 on Odell Beckham Jr. to score a touchdown.

Drake’s Super Bowl 58 Bet

So what did Drake bet for Super Bowl 58? Unlike last year, he doesn’t have an overly complicated prop card. He just has the Kansas City Chiefs to win outright for $1.15 million, which would profit $1.2 million.

Time will tell if the Kansas City Chiefs will suffer from the “Drake Curse” in Super Bowl 58, but if his recent Super Bowl bets are any indication, they have nothing to worry about.
