Lindy’s Locks: Two Outright Bets for the 2023 Genesis Invitational

The 2023 Genesis Invitational provides another opportunity for bettors to watch the best players on the PGA Tour meet a week after the elevated Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Our Genesis Invitational best bets will focus on the mid-range tier, avoiding the favorites at the top in Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. Instead, we’ll look to a pair of golfers on the brink of breaking into the next tier of golfers and we can bet on them at great value.

2023 Genesis Invitational Best Bets

Cameron Young (+3300 BetMGM)

Already one of the best pure ball strikers on tour, Cameron Young catapulted into the golf spotlight with his second-place finish at Riviera last year. It was one of his absurd seven top-three finishes in 2022, although the putter has let him down to start off his 2023 campaign. He’s now lost strokes on the green in three of his past four events, with a whopping 5.2 strokes lost last week at TPC Scottsdale.

But by far his best putting performance in his time on the PGA Tour came at this event last season, where he gained 5.9 strokes on the greens. If he can come remotely close to that this time around, his game is perfectly suited for the old-school, ball-striker-centric golf course that is Riviera. And at 33-1 over at BetMGM, he’s my favorite outright play of the week.

Sam Burns (+3500 at PointsBet)

A staple of my betting card, Sam Burns has interesting course history at Riviera to say the least: two missed cuts in his four appearances, but a 23rd and a third sandwiched in between them. This is a player who won three times this past PGA Tour season and enters this week on the heels of a sixth-place finish at the Waste Management and an 11th at the AmEx.

He’s been gaining strokes across the board in all categories, and with a red-hot putter that’s got him sixth amongst this field in that category over his past 50 rounds. Another good week with the driver should have him near the top of this field come Sunday. Love the number, love the talent, and love the form — another mid-range play north of 30-1 to add to your betting card this week at the Genesis.
