2023 Honda Classic Longshot Bets: Harrison Endycott in Good Spot to Make a Name for Himself

Welcome to the unofficial “bye week” on the PGA Tour. It’s not an easy task to get Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler to play five straight weeks of competitive golf, so most of the world’s top golfers choose to take a break from PGA National. Maybe it is the dreaded water that surrounds plenty of greens or the impactful wind — despite a lesser forecast this week — but most of the familiar names are off this week. While that opens up an easier pathway for guys at the top — Sungjae Im and Shane Lowry — the field is wide open, as evident by four of the last 10 winners being 100-1 or longer. Let’s dive deep into the best Honda Classic longshot golf bets.

Honda Classic Longshot Golf Bets

Outright Winner Longshot Bet

The forecast is calling for mild to little wind this weekend, which should help narrow down some choices, depending on how much bettors are focusing on the conditions. The ideal longshot candidate can deal with both mild and sudden shifts in the wind, being able to play through serious gusts that impact ball flight. Beyond the wind is the water. Avoiding bogeys, scrambling, gaining strokes from 150 yards or less — all are important and vital stats to help navigate PGA National. Harrison Endycott opened his first PGA event with a top-12 at the Fortinet and finished top 10 at Port Royal. He has balanced it out with a couple of missed cuts — granted, against stronger fields — but the top-22 finish at the American Express is a strong sign.

Endycott is familiar with windy conditions; if the course takes a turn for the worse, he’s in prime position to make a jump on a weaker field. The one area of recent concern is in his iron game. Longer shots off the fairway have been a problem for Endycott and could bite him at PGA National. Despite missing the cut at Pebble Beach, Endycott gained strokes putting and around the green — two areas that can help if he continues to struggle with irons. The glaring issue was losing strokes on approach shots, but in this weakened field at 420-1, it is worth a shot for a young, aggressive golfer.

Honorable Mention: Ben Martin (+19000, FanDuel)

While it is usually smart to ladder top-40 and top-20 plays for these longshot bets, there is quite a bit of value on outright tickets this week. One would think that, given the way Ben Martin is playing and one of the hosts of Putting for Dough being named “Ben,” someone would mention his name. We picked some solid names in the 90-1/100-1 range for longer shots, but Martin jumps out in the next category. This is basically the counterapproach to Endycott. Betting on Martin is relying on sharp approach shots, especially to the rest of the field. Martin enters top 10 to the field in both strokes gained on approach and approach shots from 125 to 200 yards. He comes off a top-13 at Pebble Beach and top-32 and top-21 finishes over the last five rounds. Even with a missed cut at the American Express, Martin gained strokes in every category; he just fell to a better field.
