Free CFB Expert Pick: Washington -3.5 vs. UCLA
The Huskies may not be a dominant force, but they’re better than their recent stretch of three losses in four games suggests. Those defeats all came on the road, and tonight they return to home turf, where they’re far more comfortable.
While Washington’s offense isn’t explosive, it excels in one key area: The passing game. With a completion rate north of 70%, the Huskies rely on efficient, high-percentage throws to move the ball. Against UCLA, that will become even more critical.
Let’s talk about UCLA. The Bruins are riding a three-game win streak with tight victories over Rutgers, Nebraska and Iowa. While those Big Ten wins look good on paper, a closer look reveals serious flaws. UCLA ranks 118th in points per game and averages a dismal 3.3 yards per carry on the ground. The Bruins are solid against the run, but they struggle mightily against the pass, ranking 116th in opponent completion percentage.
This mismatch plays right into Washington’s hands. The Huskies’ short, accurate passing game can exploit UCLA’s defensive vulnerabilities, and playing at home gives them an added edge.
This is a great spot to short UCLA. While its recent stretch has been solid, its offensive limitations and weakness against the pass are too significant to ignore. Washington may not be elite, but at -3.5, it is positioned to take care of business at home, move to 6-5 and bring UCLA’s streak back down to earth.
If -3.5 isn’t available, I am comfortable taking Washington at -4 (-110). Either way, the Huskies are the play for tonight.
