Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update: Star Lions Receiver Reportedly Receives Positive News on Ankle

Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has sure made fantasy football owners very happy through the first three weeks of the NFL season, but now there’s some cause for concern.

During the Lions’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon, St. Brown went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury. But after taking an MRI, it appears as though St. Brown will be back on the football field before too long.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero:

“Lions budding star WR Amon-Ra St. Brown underwent tests Monday on the ankle injury he suffered at Minnesota, and the results were encouraging overall, per sources. They’ll be cautious, but if St. Brown misses time, it shouldn’t be anything long-term.”

This comes as great news for the Lions and their fans because if St. Brown were to have suffered an injury to the high ankle, it would probably end up being an elongated trip to the injured reserve. Still, the team might opt on the side of caution and hold their young star out for a little bit of time.

The Lions have still yet to have first round draft pick Jameson Williams at their disposal, as well. The Alabama product is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s National Championship game and will likely be eased into action whenever that time may be.

He is on track, again, I’m not going to put out a hard date, but I will say, the weeks and weeks he’s strung together with his rehab, and he’s so gifted from a genetic standpoint,” Lions General Manager Brad Holmes said of Williams, via MLive.com. “Once he keeps that consistency going, it actually could accelerate that return that we’re thinking. You got to be a little bit conservative and on the safer side when it comes to forecasts and those returns to play. But hopefully, he stays on track, and hopefully it’s sooner than later, but we’re going to continue to be smart with him. We’ve always said that from Day 1 … We’ve got to be smart because we didn’t make that move for him just for Year 1. This is a long-term investment.”

Detroit has a lot to look forward to with a young receiver core centered around St. Brown and Williams, but for now, the emphasis is on getting both guys healthy for the future.
