Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Weather Report: Hurricane Ian Already Causing Concern For Sunday Night Football

Perhaps the most anticipation for a nationally televised football game this year comes Sunday night when Tom Brady‘s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are supposed to host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. But the weather could pose a threat to the game altogether.

With Hurricane Ian expected to hit near Tampa Bay this week, the Buccaneers have moved their weekly practice to Miami-Dade County, where they’ll be granted permission to use the Miami Dolphins‘ Baptist Health Training Complex.

As it stands, the game on Sunday remains scheduled for Tampa Bay. But according to NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington, the league is currently considering moving the game to Minneapolis if the storm creates a “devastating impact” on the Tampa area.

It would seem to make more sense that the NFL would look into moving the game to Miami, with the Dolphins taking on the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night, but Darlington stated that the league would not want to take away from any of Florida’s potential recovery plans.

“When you are dealing with some of the things that we are going to have to deal with this week, there’s built-in excuses that should never be excuses for anything,” Brady said (h/t JoeBucsFan.com). “We gotta approach the week with a championship attitude that no matter what we face and no matter who plays, we’re going to have to go out there and find a way to win the game.”

Per Weather.com, there is currently a 22% chance of rain on Sunday night, but if Hurricane Ian causes too much destruction before the game, the NFL will likely have to make a tough decision about the highly-anticipated Sunday Night Football game.

Of course, the primary concern is for the safety of all Floridians who are currently taking up residence in the path of Hurricane Ian, and hopefully, the damage remains minimal.
