Jaguars AFC South Betting Lines: Oddsmakers Still Giving Jacksonville Little Respect Despite Strong Start

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been one of the biggest surprises in the entire NFL during this young season.

After the disaster that was Urban Meyer’s tenure last season in Jacksonville, there were little expectations for the team in Doug Pederson’s first season at the helm. But through the first three weeks of the season, quarterback Trevor Lawrence looks like a rising star, and the Jaguars are beginning to turn some heads.

The Jaguars moved to 2-1 on the season after blowing out the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday. Even though the Jags currently hold first place in a rather weak AFC South division, oddsmakers are still giving them little chance to stay there.

The Indianapolis Colts are now the odds-on favorite to win the AFC South after their upset of the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

Lawrence made it clear that the Jaguars are ready to win now.

“Obviously, the way we’ve played, you can’t deny that we are a really good team,” Lawrence said via PFT. “But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what they say about us. We know who we are. Our only goal on Sunday is to win the game. And the way people think about us, it doesn’t really matter. Every week we are going to prepare the same way. We’re going to be ready to play. We have a bunch of competitors, so it’s been a lot of fun.”

The Jaguars will have a good measuring stick opportunity this week when Pederson returns to Philadelphia to take on the 3-0 Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

If they’re able to string together a win against a sound Eagles team, people will have no choice but to acknowledge the Jaguars as legitimate playoff contenders.
