Dalton Schultz Fantasy Football Replacements: Tanner Hudson & Jake Ferguson Waiver Wire Options For MNF (Sept 26)

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be without the services of veteran tight end Dalton Schultz when they take on the rival New York Giants for Monday Night Football.

While Schultz traveled with the team to New York to try to test out his PCL sprain ahead of the NFC East showdown, NFL insider Tom Pelissero is reporting that it’s “unlikely” that Schultz suits up for the game.

Given the situation, many fantasy football managers are left scrambling for a replacement for Monday night. And while the options may not be glamorous, perhaps there’s some value in lesser-owned tight ends out there.

Tanner Hudson & Jake Ferguson Waiver Wire Options For MNF

Even though no tight end besides Schultz has caught a pass through the first two weeks of the season for the Cowboys, the door is now open for rookie fourth-round draft pick Jake Ferguson to play a significant role on MNF. Ferguson is especially attractive in DraftKings showdown slates.

As Ferguson continues to learn Mike McCarthy’s offense, he saw a spike in his overall snap count from 16% in Week 1 to 56% in Week 2. If Schultz isn’t able to go, it’ll likely be the young Wisconsin product who tries to fill the heavy shoes.

“He’s such an instinctive, tough football player,” McCarthy said of Ferguson before the season. “That’s what we really liked about him coming from Wisconsin, and he hasn’t disappointed. He’s scrappy. He’s on the edge. He’s chippy. The young man can play.”

On the Giants’ side, perhaps tight end Tanner Hudson could be an emergency option for Monday night. Hudson was signed just ahead of the season to try to add depth to a glaringly weak tight end position for the Giants, and through the first two weeks of the season, he has caught two of three targets for 22 yards.

Still, the Giants will likely try to find some production out of their tight ends. And for now, Hudson seems to be the favorite over Daniel Bellinger at the postition.

Unfortunately for fantasy football managers, the tight end situation for MNF is rather scarce. But perhaps Hudson and/or Ferguson could turn some heads on national TV.
