Kyren Williams vs. Cam Akers: Is Either Rams RB Worth Playing in Fantasy Football or DFS?

After the surprise release of running back Darrell Henderson, the Los Angeles Rams are left with Cam Akers and rookie Kyren Williams in their backfield. Given the new dynamic, let’s take a look at the Cam AkersKyren Williams fantasy football and DFS rankings.

Kyren WilliamsCam Akers Fantasy Football and DFS Ranking

Per our Stokastic weekly running back rankings, Kyren Williams (No. 32 on the board) ranks slightly ahead of Cam Akers (No. 36), but neither is considered a serious fantasy football starter in Week 12. With our player compare tool, Williams projects at 10.91 fantasy points, with Akers projecting at 8.26.

With our expert DFS projections, Williams ($4,900) ranks as a slightly better value play than Akers ($4,900) against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Earlier in the season, Rams head coach Sean McVay praised Williams when speaking on his maturity level and overall fit in the system.

“He’s a pro. He’s mature beyond his years. You could see that just watching him at Notre Dame from afar,” McVay told Rams Wire. “You can see how important the game is to him. He’s smart, conscientious, and I think he represents a lot of the things that you want from Rams types of players and kinds of guys that we want in this building. It’s been unfortunate, the couple setbacks that he’s had, but I’ve seen a guy that’s been unfazed. He hasn’t flinched. I do know that when he gets his opportunities, I expect him to be able to do what he does and that’s play good football.”

It’s no secret that Henderson and Akers weren’t necessarily on the same page as McVay this season, and it’s expected Williams will take over the lead back role.

With starting quarterback Matthew Stafford injured, the Rams will be turning to Bryce Perkins. And given the likelihood of Los Angeles struggling to move the ball, it’s probably better to leave both Kyren Williams and Cam Akers out of your lineup, even with Williams having a bit more upside.
