WNBA Picks Today: Wings vs. Sun & Storm vs. Mystics Game 1 Playoff Predictions (Thursday, August 18)

The 2022 WNBA playoffs began just last night, and there is another pair of series set to kick off at 8 p.m. tonight. The first game tonight will be between the Dallas Wings and the Connecticut Sun, and that one will be played right before the Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm face off. Check out a breakdown of both series below, along with some WNBA picks for today.

WNBA Picks Today: Round 1 Playoff Betting Predictions

WNBA Pick: Dallas Wings vs. Connecticut Sun Game 1

The Wings have arguably the toughest matchup in this first round, especially considering especially considering the absence of leading scorer Arike Ogunbowale, who averaged over 20 points per game. Connecticut has a much more talented roster than Dallas and is now at full health. It’s also worth noting that Dallas forwards Satou Sabally and Isabelle Harrison are game-time decisions, and both should be limited, even if they happen to play. 2021 MVP Jonquel Jones should also have no problem with Wings up-and-coming big Teaira McCowan.

WNBA Pick: Washington Mystics vs. Seattle Storm Game 1

This series should end up being the most competitive first-round series this postseason. Both teams are at full health, and this game will feature an entertaining matchup between superstar players Breanna Stewart and Elena Delle Donne. The Storm went 2-1 in the season series between these two teams, and the two teams split their more recent games at the end of July, with the margins being just 5 and 3 points. During the regular season, both of these teams ranked top three in the league in points per game allowed.

Seattle has an edge on offense, as they rank in the top third of the WNBA in scoring. They simply have more consistent weapons on that end of the floor than the Mystics. The supporting cast of Sue Bird, Tina Charles and Jewell Loyd helps Stewart each night, while Delle Donne doesn’t have quite as much help. This series will be an absolute battle and will most likely go three games, but Seattle should ultimately win and advance to the next round.
