Gonzaga vs. Texas Prediction and Odds: Will the Zags Show Up as Underdogs?

The Gonzaga Bulldogs find themselves in unfamiliar territory when they travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday night. For the first time in recent memory, they’ll be the betting underdogs. Let’s take a look at the odds to make the best Texas-Gonzaga prediction and to find the best pick in this matchup.

Check out the latest odds and trends, via BetMGM:

CBB Odds: Gonzaga-Texas Odds

  • Spread: Texas -2.5 (-110), Gonzaga +2.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Texas -140, Gonzaga +120
  • Over/under: 144.5

The bets are pouring in on Gonzaga according to BetMGM data analyst John Ewing, with 69% of wagers coming in on them as the underdogs. Wednesday will mark the first time Gonzaga has been an underdog in the regular season in 96 games. That is currently the longest streak in Division I college basketball.

The Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them against a Texas team that has a good mix of experience and young firepower. Five-star recruits Dillon Mitchell and Arterio Morris have been eased into the rotation in the first two games. However, it’s the surrounding players who have really carried the load for the Longhorns thus far. Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter and seniors Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen have been leading the scoring for Texas.

Final Gonzaga-Texas Prediction & Pick:

It’s on the defensive end where Texas really has an advantage. KenPom currently has Texas ranked as the No. 1 defense in the nation through two games of the season. That should be an issue for Gonzaga, who struggled to find an offensive rhythm in a last-second win over the Michigan State Spartans last week. Drew Timme is still a force down low, but with Texas countering with the elite defending ability of Dylan Disu, Christian Bishop and Dillon Mitchell in the paint, it could be a long night for the Bulldogs. The game should be close throughout, but I’m going with the Longhorns to cover here
