Are the 49ers Super Bowl Contenders? Betting Lines Rise Following Their Convincing Win Over the Rams on MNF

Is Jimmy Garoppolo now poised to take the San Francisco 49ers back to the Super Bowl after taking over for the injured Trey Lance?

On Monday night, Garoppolo and the 49ers looked the part of a real contender, using a dominant defense to frustrate the rival Rams, winning 24-9.

With the win, the 49ers are now 2-2 on the season, tied with every single team in the NFC West (49ers, Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals). But after Monday’s dominant performance, the 49ers are now the betting favorites to win the division.

49ers NFC West & Super Bowl Odds on the Rise

Per DraftKings, the 49ers are now +100 to win the NFC West, a slight favorite over the Rams (+120). They’re also +1500 to win the Super Bowl, behind just the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“All of [the games moving forward] are big, especially after last week,” Garoppolo said after the win. “It’s always nice to beat these guys, division game.

“I don’t know — every time we play the Rams it’s a dogfight. It always is and it always usually comes down to the last couple minutes, and I think Huf made a huge play for us at the end there to kind of seal it for us.”

Sure, Garoppolo might have a ceiling as an NFL quarterback. He’s relatively confined to the pocket, misses open receivers, and sometimes struggles to find a rhythm. But what’s become glaringly obvious over the past few years is that he works for the 49ers, and he has a whole lot of wins under his belt in San Francisco to prove it.

Coming into the year with Lance under center, few saw the 49ers as a real contender, but following their win over the reigning champions on Monday night, it’s clear that the bar has been raised in The Bay.

They’ll take on the Carolina Panthers on the road next Sunday.
