David Montgomery O/U 50.5 Yards Rushing
Montgomery will have his hands full tonight against the Patriots stout run defense. They’ve allowed the 11th-fewest yards rushing this season and have held five of the six starting running backs under their season average. Star running back Nick Chubb ran the ball 12 times for 56 yards in a 23-point loss. Montgomery could see his reps diminish tonight, as the Bears are 8.5-point underdogs. Backup running back Khalil Herbert broke off a 64-yard run on a broken play. He only saw 22% of the snaps in Week 6 but should rise with his 6.4 yards per carry on the season.
Montgomery is playing for a new contract, and the Bears may be hesitant to pay him. They drafted Herbert in the second round of the 2021 draft, and he’s shown that he’s capable of taking control of the backfield. He’s already about to surpass his rushing total from last season on 40 fewer carries.
Montgomery has stayed under this line in three of five games played this season. He only played 11 snaps in their game against the Houston Texans in Week 3 due to injury, which held him out completely of their Week 4 loss to the New York Giants. Montgomery surpassed this total against the Commanders last week in a one-possession loss. The Patriots are back to full strength and are expected to rout the Bears at home.
