Tonight’s NHL Parlay | October 22

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-135)

The Metropolitan Division’s Carolina Hurricanes hit the road to take on the Pacific Division’s Calgary Flames. Both teams have started the season in good form as they are both 3-1 to kick off the campaign.

While Carolina is getting the necessary play from its usual suspects, the Svechnikov-Kotkaniemi-Necas line is re-emerging as a massive problem for opposing defenses. Through the first four games, this line has combined for 17 points.

This line struggled last season, so this strong start to the year from these three forwards is a great sign in a season where the Canes have the Cup in mind. The main scoring threat among those three players is Andrei Svechnikov, who has started the year on a torrid pace.

Across his first four games, he has logged six goals and two assists while firing a team-leading 18 shots on goal (SOG). Recording six or more SOG over his last two games, Svechnikov should go over this prop once again in this matchup.

Over his last four games against the Flames, he has recorded at least three SOG each time. These trends should not be surprising given the coaching style of Rod Brind’Amour, who has instilled a “quantity leads to quality” offensive philosophy in this team.

This team practices what It preaches, ranking third in the league in SOG per game at a whopping 38. Skating with the top six and on the first power play unit, Svechnikov will have plenty of opportunities to record just three SOG in this game. Let’s take a look at another intriguing NHL parlay.

Rasmus Dahlin Anytime Goal Scorer (+425)

In another late game, the Atlantic Division’s Buffalo Sabres take on the Pacific Division’s Vancouver Canucks. For the other leg of this parlay, let us take a look at Buffalo’s defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.

The first overall pick of the 2018 draft, Dahlin has yet to solidify that “breakout season” that many people have been expecting from the Swedish defenseman. However, the time seems to have finally arrived as Dahlin has recorded four goals and two assists through the first four games of the season.

A big part of this emergence has been coach Don Granato’s willingness to let Dahlin create offense on his own. To start his career, Dahlin was sheltered in his blue line role and afraid to make mistakes.

However, Granato has worked with Dahlin over the off-season to reassure him to play his game, the game which got him to the men’s league. Now, Dahlin is not only looking like a star, but he is looking like a guy who could be a Norris Trophy winner.

Scoring in each of the first four games of the season, Dahlin has broken a record for defensemen that has stood for over 100 years. Will he extend It to five games?

Maybe, maybe not. But at over 4/1, It is absolutely worth a shot, especially against Vancouver.

At 5v5, the Canucks rank just 20th in the league in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60). Projected to take the net for Vancouver is Thatcher Demko, who has had a shaky start to the season.

Through four starts, Demko is 0-3-1 with a .861 SV% and 4.30 GAA. In his career against Buffalo, Demko has posted a .891 SV% and 3.70 GAA.

The last time he played Vancouver, Dahlin found the back of the net. Parlay this prop with the Svechnikov SOG that is listed above, and you get a +813 play worthy of some action.
