2022 Wyndham Championship Golf Bets: Best Sleeper Picks & Predictions

The final leg of the PGA Tour’s regular season hits Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship. As seen over the previous two weeks — and no, Tony Finau will not be playing this weekend — the field is considerably weaker. Still, with names like Will Zalatoris, Sungjae Im and Webb Simpson, the event always brings some allure, especially ahead of the FedEx Playoff run. Below we’re looking at the best 2022 Wyndham Championship longshot golf bets for the week and trying be the ones posting the HUGE PAYOUT screenshots on Twitter.

Much like the previous two weeks, this course at Sedgefield requires accuracy over distance off the tee, a regimented approach with iron and wedge play to set up scoring chances, and aggressive putting to counter the rest of the field. There’s a strong balance between these three areas of emphasis, combined with the rest of the field, in looking at someone like Justin Rose. Cleary, at a 50-1 shot in a weak field, it will reflect the inconsistencies seen from Rose this year, but his two top-10 finishes have shown him at his best. Rose is 16th on tour in strokes gained putting and 41st in total strokes gained. It’s a true encapsulation of how good he can be against this particular field, taking advantage of a consistent flat stick. Outside of 18, there are plenty of easy scoring chances riddled throughout the par 4’s, and Rose is 37th in birdie average. He’s a strong play at this number based on who else is hovering at the 50-1 range.

Best Longshot Outright Winner: Justin Rose (+5000, FanDuel)

One great thing to take advantage of is laddering longer shots like Rose. It helps mitigate some risk while maximizing the return when one of these guys does go on a tear. There is nothing wrong with targeting a short-game specialist at a tournament that rewards iron play on shorter par 4’s. There are also the increased scoring chances gained by wedge play from 150 yards and in, an area where C.T. Pan has excelled when dialed in. That’s been the issue; a bad performance one week losing strokes or a missed cut, and it’s easy to forget Pan — especially ahead of any course that rewards distance off the tee. With two top-10s and an 11th-place finish at Sanderson Farms, Pan’s stats represent how consistent he can be around the green and how it’s rewarded him. He’s top 70 in strokes gained on approach, strokes gained around the green, strokes gained tee to green and total strokes gained. He’s a longer shot for a reason, losing strokes off the tee, but if Pan can take advantage of accurate — not long — tee shots, he should be in prime scoring position.

This is another event with a weaker field at a course that golfers should light up, similar to Detroit last week and the 3M the week before. Trying to find longer-shot edge is more a matter of how a golfer can separate himself from the field, even if it’s doing one specific thing significantly better than the field. Chez Reavie does that, specifically off the tee. Reavie sits comfortably near the top of the list in driving accuracy — top 10 in the current field in fairways gained. Much like Pan above, this play is looking at plus-money value for Reavie, who should be accurate enough off the tee to make the cut. The top-20 angle furthers that, with the notion that enough accuracy off the tee could distance the rest of the group.

Best Ladder Bet: Chez Reavie (Top 40 +130, DraftKings)
