Brazil World Cup Odds: Does Neymar’s Injury Give Reason For Concern?

It’s no surprise that Brazil was able to get past the Group Stage of the 2022 World Cup, but it was the ease in which it did so that made it look like a top threat to win tournament. Let’s look at the updated World Cup Odds.

After a 1-0 win over Switzerland on Monday morning to reach the Knockout Stage, Brazil (the betting favorite) saw its line continue to drop.

Brazil,  a five-time World Cup champion, kicked off its World Cup with a 2-0 win over Serbia but was forced to play without superstar Neymar against Switzerland due to an injury. Though it clearly missed Neymar's prowess on the pitch, an impressive strike from Casemiro in the 83rd proved to be the difference-maker in getting past Group Stage.

Brazil coach Tite used midfielder Fred as Neymar’s replacement against Switzerland, while Éder Militão came in for Danilo in the right back position. Neymar has since said he will play again in the World Cup, but the medical staff has not cleared him from the injured ankle just yet.

"I believe both Neymar and Danilo will play again in the World Cup. I have medical reports that are on my side," Tite said before the Switzerland match via 90 Minutes.

"Both situations have improved and we believe both will be available to play. We have to live day by day. I blame myself with Neymar because I didn’t see that he was injured and he played on for 10 or 11 minutes."

Although Brazil was able to manage without Neymar, it clearly missed his offensive creativity, often looking stagnant throughout the matchup.

Luckily for Neymar and Brazil, they'll have the luxury of another Group Stage game against Cameroon on Friday before moving on to the next round. All eyes will most certainly be on the injury to Neymar for the remainder of the week.
