Nicolas Claxton O/U 19.5 Points and Rebounds
Nicolas Claxton is becoming one of the NBA’s most underrated players. He feeds off Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons penetration and lives underneath the basket. Out of all five of the Brooklyn Nets starters, Claxton has the second-best plus/minus at -8, behind only Irving. Simmons, Kevin Durant and Royce O’Neale all rank at the bottom of the league in plus/minus.
Claxton has had his fair share of battles with Bucks center Brook Lopez. In two games last season in which both players played at least 20 minutes, Claxton averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Fast forward to this season, and Claxton has improved mightily. In three games, he’s averaging 30 minutes per game and over 25 points plus rebounds. He’s faced off against similar big men in Jonas Valanciunas and Steven Adams and put together efficient performances. Claxton is shooting 75% from the field, second best in the NBA.
Simmons should draw the defensive matchup against Antetokounmpo, which will keep Claxton out of foul trouble. Lopez will draw Claxton away from the basket from time to time, but he will have his opportunities to rebound the ball. Joel Embiid reeled down 12 rebounds against the Bucks, and Alperen Segun had nine off the bench in 22 minutes.
