Mike White Injury Forces Zach Wilson to Start, Impacting Jets-Lions Odds

After stating there was no doubt he’d play Sunday, New York Jets quarterback Mike White has been ruled out with a rib injury and Zach Wilson will start against the Detroit Lions in NFL Week 15. The breaking news has affected the Jets-Lions odds, shifting from Jets 2-point favorites to the Lions being 2-point favorites facing Wilson, who is 8-12 in his NFL career, confirmed to play Sunday.

Jets-Lions Odds After Zach Wilson Announced Starting QB

Mike White Ruled Out, Zach Wilson’s Time to Shine

The Jets (7-6) have been one of the surprise teams this NFL season, pushing for a Wild Card in the AFC. White, who was the third-string quarterback behind Wilson and Joe Flacco heading into this season, was 1-2 with three touchdowns and two interceptions in three starts.

It’s worth noting that White’s two losses came in close games against elite teams, the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. Wilson’s return to starting QB isn’t playing well in Vegas’ eyes, who now slightly favor the red-hot Lions. Dan Campbell’s team has won five of its past six games, including 34-23 against the Vikings in Week 14.

Wilson’s career hasn’t gotten off to the start Jets fans hoped for after being selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In 20 games, Wilson’s thrown for more than 300 yards once and has yet to throw for three or more passing TDs in a game.

Zach Wilson‘s Fantasy Projection Against Lions

Wilson’s fantasy projection from Stokastic’s premium DFS data has the second-year QB pegged for 16.68 fantasy points against Detroit. This projection makes Wilson the 14th ranked QB, notably higher than Detroit QB Jared Goff, who is projected for 15.95.

It’s bold to predict a breakout game for Wilson against the Lions, but Detroit has given up the third most passing yards against (3,424) this season and is tied for fifth in passing TDs against (21).

Taking Wilson in a contrarian DFS play looks more palpable than taking the Jets outright against the Lions on Sunday.
