Vikings Offense vs. Commanders Defense

The Vikings made a big splash at the trade deadline, acquiring tight end T.J. Hockenson from the Lions. They had a hole to fill at the position with Irv Smith Jr./strong>. (ankle) landing on IR, and Hockenson is certainly an upgrade. They have plenty of weapons for Kirk Cousins now, including wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, and running back Dalvin Cook. Cook is coming off one of his best games of the season, posting 141 total yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals. The NFL Player Props Tool has Cook projected to rush for 73.6 yards in this matchup.

The Commanders have been mediocre on defense, allowing an average of 21.5 points per game. They have been able to generate 21 sacks, but they only have two total interceptions. On the bright side, they have limited opponents to just four rushing scores.

Commanders Offense vs. Vikings Defense

An injury to Carson Wentz (finger) has forced the Commanders to turn to Taylor Heinicke at quarterback again. He played well in a win over the Colts last week, throwing for 279 yards, one touchdown and one interception, to go along with a rushing touchdown. He relied heavily on Terry McLaurin, who had six receptions for 113 yards. Over the two games since Heinicke took over, McLaurin has caught 11 of 16 targets for 186 yards and a touchdown. The NFL Player Props Tool has McLaurin projected to finish this game with 58.4 receiving yards.

The Vikings have holes on defense, specifically their secondary. They have allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game, although they do have seven interceptions. Like the Commanders, they have also been able to generate 21 sacks. They could be dealing with a key absence, though, with defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson (calf) considered as being week-to-week.

Vikings at Commanders Pick

The Vikings’ only loss this season came at the hands of the undefeated Eagles in Philadelphia. They don’t have a ton of impressive wins on their resume, but they have been taking care of business against inferior foes. Of their six wins, five of them have come by at least four points. They have a major edge over the Commanders at just about every position on offense, leaving them with a favorable opportunity to produce a convincing victory.
