Best NHL Player Props Tonight: Sidney Crosby Continuing Penguins’ Hot Start Against Canucks (October 28)

Winnipeg visiting Arizona may not sound like the kind of matchup many would normally want to tune in for, but the inaugural NHL matchup at Mullett Arena, a college-level facility, turns out is interesting, especially when it provides some strong prop options. Let’s have a look at the best NHL player props from around the NHL slate tonight, including two from Winnipeg Jets – Arizona Coyotes.

Tonight’s NHL Player Props | October 28

Kyle Connor Anytime Goal Scorer (+128 )

Kyle Connor is simply far too talented of a goal scorer to have just a single goal this NHL season. And with that goal coming on an empty net, he actually has not beaten a goalie yet. This is far from just tapping into the “due” narrative, however, considering the number of good looks he is still generating alongside Mark Scheifele and Mason Appleton.

Connor has managed 13 shot attempts over the last two games, with many high quality. Yet on the season, he somehow has a rating of 2.1 goals below expected, which is entirely unsustainable for a scorer of Connor’s quality.

Arizona has allowed a shocking rate of 4.83 goals against per game and has an alarmingly high 3.95 expected goals allowed per 60 to go with that. Even if the Coyotes come out with a better-than-average effort, Arizona still offers one of the better matchups in the league for Connor. His breakthrough coming tonight is more likely than this number suggests.

Shayne Gostisbehere Over 2.5 Shots On Goal (+104)

Shayne Gostisbehere has had a ridiculous start to the campaign, generating four goals and 8 points in just six games from the back end on a very thin Coyotes team. However, managing four goals to this point is not as stunning as it sounds since he has a ridiculous 39 shot attempts already, good for 6.5 per game.

Defenders are always likely to have more attempts not make it to the net, but less than half of Gostisbehere’s average shot attempts need to reach the goal to cash at this number. He has averaged 3.83 shots on goal per game this season, hitting the over in five of six, and his average does not appear to be trending downwards anytime soon.

The Coyotes could control more of the play than average in this spot against Winnipeg on a back-to-back, and this prop offers excellent value at greater than plus money.

Sidney Crosby Over 1.5 Total Points (+132)

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins have had a strong start to the campaign, generating a league leading 4.29 goals for per game on route to a 4-2-1 record. Crosby himself has been stellar, with 11 points in seven games, and he is skating in an excellent spot Friday against a Vancouver team that is allowing 4.25 goals per game. To make matters worse for Vancouver, it is in the midst of a back-to-back after a hard-fought game last night in Seattle. The Canucks will either be going back-to-back with Thatcher Demko or playing backup goaltender Spencer Martin.

The high-powered Penguins, meanwhile, have been lying in wait after losses in back-to-back nights on the Alberta leg of its Western Canadian road trip, and this is a spot for a strong outing from the Penguins.

Confirmation of Crosby getting running mate Jake Guentzel back from injury would help this spot even more, but this number will still regress throughout the day as people piece together how likely the Penguins should be to score a lot.

The Penguins opened at -150, which was simply wrong, and could realistically touch -200 by game time.
