What Other Types of Boom Fantasy Promos Do They Offer?

Most pick’em-style DFS apps offer their “free squares” as higher/lower than 0.5, which encourages higher plays. Boom, on the hand, sometimes goes the opposite route, offering astronomically high projections like Paul George more or less than 999.5 points. Boom will also go with the traditional projection reduction like 0.5 points.

Other common promotions that Boom may offer include:

  • Payout Boost: Boom will increase payouts for all entry sizes. For example, a two-pick entry, which usually has a 3x payout for a win, may be boosted up to 3.5x.
  • Pick & Spin: Boom will give out wheel spins and award cash and other prizes based on where your spin lands.
  • Friend Referral: Users who refer a friend to Boom will receive a $25 bonus. The friend must deposit at least $10 into their Boom account, comply with terms of service and play through their initial deposit.
  • Entry Streak: Boom may award bonuses to players who connect on a number of entries in a row.

Boom Fantasy is a real-money fantasy sports platform where users can participate in daily fantasy sports contests, specifically pick’em-style DFS contests. Boom Fantasy App Experience

Design and Layout

In general, the layout of the Boom Fantasy app does not stand out all that much when compared to other DFS apps. It is sleek enough and user-friendly, but its color scheme is basically black, gray and white, with a few pops of blue here and there and the color of players’ teams in the background of their pick squares. There isn’t anything we dislike here, per se, but also nothing that wows us.

Design-wise, Boom Fantasy suffers from the same issue that several other pick’em-style DFS apps have: They opt for larger cards on the player selection screen. Some may like it because the squares are easier to read than, say, Sleeper, which has relatively small text. The issue with the bigger cards, however, is that it makes the picks page slightly less “browsable,” as it requires quite a lot of scrolling if you don’t have a specific player, team or game in mind.

That said, Boom does undercut this issue by keeping the picks within each player’s card compact and digestible, and they also have the games in a scrollable bar near the top of the screen. In our experience, it is more common for apps to make game selection a collapsible function, and the scrolling bar is much better for a clean appearance and navigability.

Here are what the various picks screens look like:

Pick ‘Em Toss-ups include both over and under plays on their player squares. Longshots and Favorites have the same layout, with only over plays available. Matchups feature the two players going head-to head, and you simply click the one you believe will do better in the given statistic.

When you have chosen at least two picks, you can submit your entry. Click the window at the bottom of the screen to bring up the Review Entry page:

Confirm your picks and enter the dollar amount you would like to stake. For some insurance in exchange for a lower payout, you can select Coverage if you have made at least three picks. Once you are happy with your selections, click Submit Entry.

Navigation

Again, the size of the player cards leads to some minor knocks on the app’s navigability, but if you have a general idea of what picks you want to make, you probably will not even notice. The sports for which you can make picks are in a scrolling bar at the very top of the screen, and the Over/Under page allows you to sort by game. There is also an easy search function that allows you to search by player or team.

boom fantasy sports game options

On the home page, you will find a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen that allows you to move between the lobby, your active contests, recent wins and the account/settings page. The lobby has the three Pick ‘Em contests (Toss-ups, Longshots and Favorites) and usually a free square graphic that you can click to start an entry with that pick. You can also access the deposit screen from the home page.

Since there is not that much to the Boom Fantasy app in terms of a wide variety of contests, navigating it is pretty straightforward. There isn’t much else we could ask of the app in this regard.

Boom Fantasy Options

Boom offers three different types of Pick ‘Em fantasy contests and eight different sports.

Pick ‘Em Contest Types

Boom Fantasy has Over/Under Pick ‘Em contests for all three of its formats:

  • Toss-Ups: Player stats are set similar to where betting markets have set them, so the chances of either side hitting are about equal.
  • Longshots: Projections are increased, and users can only select overs — the payouts are higher, but the odds of winning are lower.
  • Favorites: The opposite of Longshots; projections are lower, so overs are more likely to win. Payouts are lower, however.

Matchups contests are only available under Toss-Ups at this time, but Boom may include them in Favorites and Longshots in the future.

Toss-up entries also allow you to select “Coverage,” which means you can still win some cash even if you miss a pick. The tradeoffs are A) the maximum payouts for hitting on all picks are lower, and B) you must make at least three picks to activate Coverage. This is only available for Toss-ups. Boom Fantasy Customer Service

Boom Fantasy customer service seems to be pretty polarizing. They do have a live chat that helps with pressing issues, and timeliness of Boom’s responses is widely cited as being quick. However, users’ primary issue with Boom’s functionality is the time that it takes to receive withdrawals. In that regard, customer service is largely described as being unhelpful — this is not necessarily the fault of Boom’s customer service reps or customer service procedures, but it is not great that such a large issue is essentially impossible to resolve at this time.

That said, here are some examples of positive reviews of the Boom app via the iOS and Google Play stores.

“First let me start off by saying this is a quality and legit app. Customer service live chats are actually very professional and responsive to needs and make the experience very enjoyable.”

“Certainly different than most out there. Low payout on favorites but always worth it App super user friendly and live chat is great.”

Player feedback from Google Play and iOS Store

Aside from the time it takes to receive withdrawals (most people say it usually takes 5 to 7 days), here are a few other problems users had:

  • Picks changed to non-winners after the fact.
  • Difficulty getting picks accepted.
  • Can’t change picks prior to game start.

Contact Options

💬 Message: Boom Fantasy offers message support on the desktop site, which you can access via the talk bubble icon on the bottom right of the screen. You can find the live chat in the app via the Help Center.
📧 Email: Boom Fantasy email support is available 24/7 at support@boomfantasy.com, though response times vary.

Conclusion

The greatest appeal of the Boom Fantasy experience is the different types of Pick ‘Em contests they offer. If you like to shoot the moon, you can go for a five-pick entry or play Longshots, which will earn you 20x and 40x payouts, respectively, if they connect. Alternatively, if you are a more conservative player, you can opt for Favorites and get a lower payout but a higher shot at winning. This ability to adapt the pick’em game to your own playing style is pretty unique to the DFS space.

The app is also pretty seamless and user-friendly, with only some minor issues that are not dealbreakers by any means. If winnings paid out more quickly, then Boom would certainly be one of the best under-the-radar DFS operators in the market. As is, Boom Fantasy is definitely a fun experience with a lot of upside to becoming a major player in the DFS industry.
