Utah vs. USC Odds: Why Is The Data Moving Around So Much?

The USC Trojans have propelled up the College Football rankings and into a top-four position after defeating Notre Dame last weekend. Before the Trojans can book their ticket to the College Football Playoff in their first season under head coach Lincoln Riley, they’ll have to take care of business against the Utah Utes in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Let’s analyze the college football odds for this matchup to make sharpest Utah-USC odds maneuver.

Check out the latest Utah-USC odds and trends below.

CFB Odds: Utah-USC Odds

  • Spread: Utah +2.5 (-110), USC -2.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Utah +120, USC -145
  • Total: Over 68 (-110), Under 68 (-110)

According to BetMGM data analyst John Ewing, bettors are all over the Trojans in this one, with 78% of bets and 87% of money on USC to cover the spread. 69% of bets and 89% of money is on USC on the money line, and 75% of bets and 93% of money is on the over. For some games, it’s hard to read what bettors are thinking, but this one is obvious: bettors are looking for USC quarterback Caleb Williams to edge out the Utes in a shootout on Saturday night.

Williams all but ran away with the Heisman Trophy last week with a lights-out performance in a 38-27 win. He completed 18 of 22 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown, adding 35 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Per DraftKings, he’s a heavy -2500 favorite to win the Heisman Trophy heading into the weekend.

Even though it’s safe to assume Williams will have his moments against Utah, the Utes proved to be the toughest test for the Trojans all season long, issuing them their one and only loss on October 15. In that game, both Williams and Utah quarterback Cameron Rising showed out in a big way, with Rising getting the last laugh in a 43-42 win. The junior Utah quarterback completed 30 of 44 passes for 415 yards and two touchdowns in that matchup.

Final Utah-USC Odds Prediction:

Expect more of the same on Saturday, with both the Utah and USC offenses trading blows in what should be an action-packed affair. This game could very well come down to who has the ball last, but I’m taking the points and betting against the vast majority of the public in what figures to be a toss-up.

Final Utah-USC prediction: Utah +2.5
