Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin III Betting Odds & Trends: Public Backing Underdog Golovkin With Heavy Value

At long last, the third bout between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The rivalry has turned into a match of real bad blood, fueled by Golovkin feeling like he was robbed by judges during their past two bouts and accusing Alvarez of using PEDs following a drug test ahead of their last rematch.

After their first fight ended in a draw, Alvarez was granted a majority decision win in their rematch, which took place in September of 2018.

As it stands, Alvarez remains the heavy favorite to defeat Golovkin in the trilogy. But a lot of bettors are flocking to take the underdog.

Per BetMGM, there have been far more bets on Golovkin and the tie than Alvarez.

Alvarez vs. Golovkin Most Bet Props

  • Gennady Golovkin by KO/TKO/Technical Decision or DQ (+800)
  • Canelo Alvarez by KO/TKO/Technical Decision or DQ (+150)
  • Canelo Alvarez on points (+110)

When speaking on why it’s taken so long for a trilogy fight, Golovkin put all the blame on his opponent.

“This is not a question for me,” Golovkin told “Morning Kombat” last week. “I insisted on a trilogy the next day after the judges gave the victory to Canelo [in the rematch].”

Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) still holds the title as undisputed super middleweight champion, but has only defended the title once since his rematch with Golovkin. He’s coming off a loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in May.

Even though Alvarez has shown reluctance to take on the trilogy fight in the past, perhaps the pressure from Golovkin, along with the public outcry, led to the champ changing his mind.

“Yes, I want [the trilogy],” Alvarez said. “And if people want it, I really want it. I wanted to come back strong so I’m really excited to be here. I’m ready for Saturday.”
